History – Our content, aims and concepts

At Torre C of E Academy, our high-quality history curriculum allows pupils to develop a curiosity, fascination and understanding of the world around them in line with our vision ‘We live life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). 
The big ideas of chronology, power and influence and community are at the heart of everything and we aim to make learning irresistible through exciting experiences, trips out and visitors.
From the start of their learning journey, pupils develop a well-rounded knowledge of the past and its events, becoming increasingly critical and analytical thinkers and developing their skills of enquiry, interpretation and problem-solving.
Our young historians gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world as well as celebrating history on our doorstep through local studies. Past lives and events show the pupils how history can continue to influence our personal choices, attitudes, character and values today.
